POE camera system

Often we will say something to a customer like “It’s a POE system ran on CAT6” and I have to try to remember that often people don’t know what our industry jargon or words mean.

CAT6 is a type of CABLE that we use which allows us to hardwire cameras to a recorder or to a network.

POE mean powered over ethernet meaning we don’t have to run separate power for the camera but it gets it’s power from the same cable. The distance is normally limited to 328 feet unless we put an extender or other type of booster on it.

Peak installs WIFI cameras that need power at the camera location and they also need about 3.5mbps upload speed on your network. The power needs to be close to the camera. I typically don’t like to sell WIFI cameras since there are issues that can affect the camera operation such as your WIFI going down and the cameras not working.

I like to install hardwired cameras whenever possible and these are IP cameras that tie into your network/internet/recorder.

Call me and I can come to your home or business to give you a camera proposal
