Impressions on immigration debate

Interestingly enough Greg and Eli were almost polar opposites yet Michael and Will who are on different sides of the issue seemed to have more common ground than most would have thought.  I took notes and will add more to this note later for my personal reference.  I pride myself on being a reasonable man and I admit that both sides do have good points when it comes to the challenges we face with illegal immigration. I will go over some of those points that were discussed at the debate.

Overall trying to be non-bias I felt that Greg did the best job of expressing himself and answering the questions with eloquent answers. Greg brought more of a revolutionary attitude to the debate than I felt was needed in this type of forum although his passion far out-shinned anyone else there. Many people are not ready for some of the  information he presented nor are they able to process truth without the life experience and the background to understand it. I would have rated Greg as a 9 out of 10.

Next I would have to say that Michael Sanchez was next in line if I had to rate the debate. I would give him a 7.5.  Michael was soft-spoken and presented himself as a normal reasonable person even though I did not agree with everything he said, he was open to a real dialog. Unfortunately this attitude does not seem indicative of Minutemen in general as Eli so aptly proved when he opened his mouth. Sadly the things he said reminded me of Archie Bunker's attitude from All in the Family. I remember so well watching Archie say things that he believed were right and the crazy thing about it was my father felt the same way Archie did about many issues. Watching old re-runs of the show clearly point out that it was produced to help us realize how silly and foolish many of those old ideas were. I give Eli a 7 just under Michael yet after a couple very foolish remarks I lost respect for the man as a whole.

Some people seem to get their speaking ability from bumper stickers. I think that if the Minutemen get any more people as radical as Eli in their ranks,  groups fighting against minutemen can rest easy, however if the minutemen recruit more people like Michael Sanchez they may actually make some reasonable changes for good. (Not likely)

Will also gets a 7.5 in my book and I would say he relates to more young people and comes across as very reasonable. Will knows his material yet seems so nice. That is not a criticism of the man but an observation. I felt they all did a good job of having a civil organized debate and the people at the debate were for the most part respectful. I will try to add more about this debate later for anyone that is interested in the immigration issue. Eli did illicit strong emotions from my daughter so I would have to say he was successful if that was his purpose. She told me she wanted to throw her shoe at him, then she changed her mind and decided against that and wanted to throw my shoe at him.  She contained herself and we then walked to our truck with our shoes on.
