“By far Five Smooth Stones by Ann Fairbairn is one of my favorite books.”  Ann’s brilliance in writing about love, death, racial issues, LGBTQ+ issues is just as relevant today as it was in the context of her time (1966) if not more relevant.  I read this book when I was 15 years old and loved it. Her magical methods of bringing you into the minds and hearts of people allow you to love and live with an understanding that is hard to obtain without actual life experience. Without giving much away, a young black man falls in love with a young white woman in a time when not only was it not accepted by many in the white communities, but it was not accepted among the black communities either.    Read this book and discuss it and re-read it, because it will help us improve our relationships and overcome challenges.  I am a Police Chaplain and I respond to death scenes on a regular basis, often there is nothing to say, and Ann has helped me understand how to love and respond to people in a way I have never known.  (Ann Fairbairn is a pen name used by Dorothy Tait) Review by Chaplain Larry Love from Salt Lake City.
